Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority serves a total student population of approximately 500+ students. We seek a passionate and culturally responsive Language Arts teacher to inspire and guide our high school students in developing strong communication, critical thinking, and creative expression skills. The ideal candidate will deeply understand the Alberta English Language Arts curriculum, commit to decolonizing teaching practices, and foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects and celebrates Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.<p>Key Responsibilities: <p> Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver comprehensive instruction aligned with the Alberta English Language Arts curriculum while incorporating Indigenous literature, storytelling traditions, and perspectives. Promote the exploration of Indigenous voices and experiences. <p> Differentiated Instruction: Employ diverse instructional strategies to cater to various learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Implement adaptations and supports to ensure accessibility for all students, recognizing the unique needs of Indigenous learners. <p> Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and administer formative and summative assessments (e.g., projects, presentations, essays, tests, quizzes) to measure student progress and provide constructive feedback. Utilize assessment methods that are culturally sensitive and respectful of Indigenous ways of knowing. <p> Classroom Management: Establish a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment by setting clear expectations, promoting positive student behaviour, and implementing effective classroom management techniques that align with Indigenous cultural values and practices. <p> Mentorship and Guidance: Provide guidance and support for students' academic, personal, and social development. Foster connections with Elders and Knowledge Keepers in the community. <p> Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and support staff to enhance student learning outcomes and well-being. <p> Professional Development: Actively participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching practice, decolonize education, and stay current with evolving educational approaches for Indigenous learners.<p>Qualifications: <p> Bachelor's Degree in Education with a specialization in English or related field. <p> Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. <p> Demonstrated knowledge of the Alberta English Language Arts curriculum. <p> Experience teaching high school Language Arts courses. <p> Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. <p> Strong organizational and time management abilities. <p> Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire diverse learners. <p> Commitment to inclusion, equity, and creating a culturally responsive classroom environment.<p>Additional Desired Skills: <p> Experience in integrating technology for innovative teaching and learning. <p> Familiarity with assessment for learning principles and practices. <p> Knowledge of adolescent development and psychology. <p> Experience working in Indigenous communities or a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and perspectives.<p>Why Work With Us?<p>We offer paid time off for professional development and non-instructional days, sick days, health and dental benefits, a health spending account, and the company's registered pension plan benefits.
